Data pipes governance

Custom data

Custom data allows customers to collect events and metadata that are not already standardized in Datazoom’s data dictionaries. This includes custom events such as sign-ups, purchases, searches, form submissions, feature interactions, and error states, as well as custom metadata like user attributes, session details, content metadata, feature flags, transaction identifiers, or any other values that clarify their digital experiences.

Datazoom helps customers manage custom data with tools to support consistent governance so that fields collected from different methods or implementations are standardized for cleaner downstream reporting, analytics, and troubleshooting.

Datazoom supports two primary methods for collecting custom data so teams can capture consistent business context across applications:

  • SDK methods: Developers can send custom metadata directly from the Datazoom SDKs, using application-defined field names and values at the point where the data is available.

  • On-demand / remote instrumentation: For Javascript collectors, teams can collect custom data without a code release by using Datazoom’s UI element selector tool and query selectors to target page elements and capture their values remotely.

Together, these capabilities give teams the flexibility to capture the context that matters to their business while keeping custom data organized, reliable, and ready to use across their analytics workflows.
